NF Power Hours

The Covid-19 pandemic has clearly had a tremendous impact on us all. Perhaps the most affected area, aside from medical implications, has been people’s ability to meet and congregate. For a community such as NF Midwest, this is a potentially devastating realization. NF Midwest is an organization that thrives on connection and togetherness. “No one Fights alone“ after all.

In an effort to remain connected, NF Midwest began to host virtual meetings called Power Hours. Each Power Hour focuses on a specific subject but also leaves space for all to join in. Even those particularly unaffected by the highlighted subject. Power Hours have included subjects such as:

  • Cutaneous Neurofibromas
  • Schools and IEP’s
  • Socialization in NF
  • SSI/SSDI-Disability, Able Accounts, and Special Needs Trusts
  • Specialist in Early Childhood Intervention
  • Adults with NF
  • Medicaid and Medicare
  • Talking to your Children about NF
  • Open Chats

Every power hour has included medical and professional experts in each subject. It has also given the greatest NF experts of all, those living with NF, an opportunity to share their knowledge and experiences.

Power Hours have a conversational design where everyone is invited to participate but never pressured. This makes it the perfect place for those who may be uncomfortable or unfamiliar with virtual meetings. This viral video gives a good laugh and also proves virtual meetings can have their hiccups here and there. But, with a supportive community like NF Midwest, it’s just another chance to bond.

*Some NF Power Hours may be restricted to the regions NF Midwest serves.

  • Hi Diana Guess I’m fortunate that my NF1 does not effect my daily life, I will wait till it I can get it Thank you.

  • I have NF1, does that make me eligible to get the cOVID-19 vaccine early, for underlining health conditions

    • It would be best to ask your doctor this question, but we believe it depends on how NF affects you. NF is not listed specifically as a chronic condition in the COVID vaccination information.
