The new Great Steps competition runs until March 15!
Be the team to raise the most from Jan 16th to March 15th to win
bragging rights and a prize. All the walks, including the Virtual Walk, are
included.
Naperville 4KATE team wins the first Great Steps
competition of the season!
Congratulations to the Naperville 4Kate Great Steps team for winning the
first Great Steps competition of the 2010 season. 4Kate raised an
awesome $3374 by the January 15th deadline! Ali's Gaitors (walking
Naperville and Effingham!) came in second place by raising $800. As their
prize the 4Kate team scored an eNuF NF t-shirt!
4Kate was able to reach this goal by holding a Vendor Nite which
included various home party vendors and by getting a great matching
fund from an employer. Read more about how the 4Kate team raised
their funds below. The Ali-gators donor funds came from holding a
Motorcycle Poker Run.
Be sure to get in on the next competition. The team that raises the most
between now and March 15 wins a prize. This only includes new
donations, so everyone has a chance to win! 4Kate already has a
bowling benefit in the works and other teams are floating various ideas
around, so you better get started. Go to our community events page for
more information on holding a fund-raiser for NF.
How they did it!
On November 14th team 4KATE held a vendor night at my home in
Tinley Park to raise money for NF. The six vendors that were there, for
everyone's shopping pleasure, have donated a percentage of their sales
to NF. We also held a raffle and had a $5 Wheel of Fortune game where
every spin was a winner.
Vendor night was the brain child of my sister-in-law Kim Daniels. I have
to say I was very nervous about holding this event and I was afraid it
would turn out to be more work than what we could raise. I am happy to
say it turned out surprisingly well and was worth all the effort. Not only
did we raise over $1,000 for NF but I met 2 other moms (hi Dena, hi Sue
- Thanks for coming) who have children with NF that live within a few
blocks of me. To me that was the best part of the evening.
The turn out for the event was great and everyone had a good time. We
had a lot of people say that they would attend something like this again
so we are considering doing the vendor night again next year around the
same time.
The vendor night left us with a very positive outlook and has made me a
little more at ease about proceeding with other events. So, please keep
an eye out for more events we will be hosting - Bowling on February 20,
2010 and a Sock Hop possibly in May. If you are interested in attending
